Leigh Students Injured In Morning Bus Crash

Leigh, NE~~The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate a school bus accident that sent two Leigh students to the hospital Friday morning. Authorities say the accident occurred at about 8:00 a.m. around nine miles northwest of Leigh on 827th Road. 

The driver of the bus lost control of the east bound bus and it slid off the roadway and rolled onto its side about four feet down into a creek bed.   The bus was loaded with 20 students en route to Leigh. 

Two girls age 8 and 9 were injured and taken to a Norfolk hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  A third student was treated at Leigh Community Schools for possible injuries and was going to be taken for further treatment by her parents.  The bus driver declined medical attention at the scene.  Uninjured students were taken from the scene by local residents in personal vehicles.

Rescue units from Leigh, Madison and Stanton responded to the accident scene.  Life Net also responded to the scene, but did not land.
