Large Fire Destroys Grand Island Business



Grand Island, NE~~Fire crews in Grand Island battled a devastating blaze in downtown Grand Island for nearly four hours Sunday night. Crews were called to Ron’s Transmission near West 3rd and North Elm Streets just before 8pm Sunday evening.   

The fire caused extensive damage to Ron’s including the collapse of a portion of the building.  A thrift store next to the building was also involved in the fire. 

Authorities say one firefighter suffered minor injuries.

Fire Chief Cory Schmidt says fire crews and trucks from the Grand Island Rural Fire Department, Hastings and St. Paul helped his firefighters. The fire cause is being investigated.
