"Dancing with the Stars" Recap: Jonathan Bennett Gets the Boot

ABC(LOS ANGELES) -- Actor Jonathan Bennett and his professional partner, Allison Holker, were eliminated on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars Monday.“That’s OK,” said Bennett, after learning the news.“Here’s the thing,” Bennett explained. “I came here to do this show to have fun and just have a really great experience and to bring life back into my life, and that’s what I did. I can’t thank Allison enough. I had the best time.” Holker agreed, telling co-host Tom Bergeron, “I’m so proud of him.”It was “Muy Caliente Monday” on the show as guest judge Pitbull filled in for the absent Len Goodman during this Latin-themed sixth week of the competition. The singer opened the show with his hit song, “Fireball.” Former contestant and actress Leah Remini also helped host in Erin Andrews’ absence while she’s in Kansas City covering the World Series. Returning to compete next week are actors Antonio Sabato Jr. and Alfonso Ribeiro, Lea Thompson and fellow actress Janel Parrish, NASCAR driver Michael Waltrip, reality TV star Sadie Robertson, YouTube beauty guru Bethany Mota and comedian Tommy Chong. The stars compete each week for scores from the judges as well as votes from viewers. The star with the lowest combined total is eliminated each week. Here’s a rundown of Monday night’s routines: Jonathan Bennett: The actor and pro partner Allison Holker danced a Men in Black-inspired jazz routine to Pitbull’s “Back in Time.” “We need to see improvement and see a range, and that was exactly what that was,” said judge Julianne Hough, who immediately gave Bennett a big hug across the judges’ table. “The best part about you is your resilience,” added judge Carrie Ann Inaba. “I think this was your best dance so far.” Guest judge Pitbull joked, “You look just like Will Smith.” The actor earned 8s across the board for a total of 32 points.Janel Parrish: Parrish and professional partner Val Chmerkovskiy spiced things up on the dance floor with a samba to a song by the legendary Celia Cruz. “You’re such a phenomenal performer because you perform from your entire body,” Inaba told Parrish. “But tonight I felt like you were a bit off balance.” Pitbull couldn’t help but feel the passion was missing from their performance. “I don’t know [anything] about ballroom dancing, but I know a lot about passion,” he explained. “And I didn’t feel the passion.” Hough was very complimentary of the performance, however. “The choreography and the content was almost like a competition routine,” she said. “So I want to commend you. Well done, I thought it was great.” The judges awarded Parrish a total of 33 points.Tommy Chong: The comedian did a foxy foxtrot to Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September” with professional partner Peta Murgatroyd. “I just want to say that I think you could be in this competition for a long time. That was so awesome,” said Hough. Inaba agreed, noting she was “so happy to see” that Chong was “back in great form.” Pitbull, who called Chong “The most interesting man in the world,” really enjoyed their routine on the dance floor saying, “It wasn’t perfect, but it was fun.” In a pre-taped segment, Chong and Murgatroyd spent time in the sweat lodge, and it appears to have helped recharge them. The comedian received 7s across the board for a total of 28 points.Antonio Sabato Jr.: The actor and his professional partner Cheryl Burke steamed things up with a salsa dance to Enrique Iglesias’ “Bailando.” Despite it being a tough week for Burke as she was also dealing with her father’s recent medical problems, the partners pulled through, earning decent remarks from the judges. “You really took me back to the streets of old Havana,” explained judge Bruno Tonioli. “You did a fantastic job of creating the perfect atmosphere, but you’ve got to learn to transfer the weight so you get the hips going.” Inaba agreed that Sabato Jr. was a bit stiff on the dance floor, but noted that his “trajectory of growth is consistent” which means he’s slowly and surely improving. But, she added, “You’ve got to let the music move you.” The judges awarded the actor all 7s, for a total of 28 points.Sadie Robertson: The reality star danced a rumba to Rihanna’s “Diamonds” with pro partner Mark Ballas. The partners attempted to keep the traditionally passionate dance style as conservative as possible, out of respect to Robertson’s Christian values. “It felt really good, but I’m glad to get the rumba over with,” Robertson said after her performance. “I wanted to find the perfect balance of being appropriate while still doing the perfect dance,” added Ballas. The judges felt they did an excellent job of maintaining that balance. Inaba called it “exceptionally gorgeous and age appropriate.” Tonioli told Robertson, “You really are a sparkling little jewel of a dancer,” adding however, “The rumba needs a continuous motion and at times it was a bit jagged, but mostly well done.” Pitbull said, “It was simple, but it was powerful.” The routine earned Robertson a whopping 35 out of 40 points.Lea Thompson: The actress and her pro partner Artem Chigvintsev spiced up the dance floor with their salsa to Pitbull’s “Sexy People.” Pitbull joked with the shirtless Chigvintsev saying, “I didn’t know Jean-Claude Van Damme could dance that good, man. It was sexy and that’s what I’m talking about.” Inaba, on the other hand, felt disappointed with their performance saying, “I think you should stay to your strengths. You play your game and stay on track.” Hough agreed that Thompson seemed to lack confidence, instead worrying too much about her fellow competitor, Alfonso Ribeiro. “I have always thought from day one you are the girl to beat,” said Hough. “Tonight though, I felt like you needed to trust your partner and trust yourself. At the end of the day, that’s all you can control.” The judges awarded Thompson a total of 32 out of 40 points.Michael Waltrip: The NASCAR driver and partner Emma Slater danced a sensual Argentine tango to Pitbull’s “Give Me Everything,” and the judges loved it, calling the choreography “beautiful.” Inaba told Waltrip “This is what a champion is made out of,” adding, “You were composed, you were elegant and you actually tried to really dance.” Pitbull said he was feeling badly for Waltrip at first, but then told him, “You did a great job and I see that you got so much into the moment you tried to sneak a kiss at the end.” Without missing a beat, Waltrip quipped back, “I felt like that was a Mr. Worldwide move.” Tonioli felt this performance was a “great improvement.” Waltrip earned two 8s and two 7s from the judges for a total of 30 out of 40 points, his highest score this season.Bethany Mota: The YouTube star danced a sensational tango to “Jealous” by Chromeo with professional partner Derek Hough. The judges raved that the performance was “pure tango.” Hough explained, “There was no fluff. It was a pure, honest, good tango. It was everything a tango should be.” Tonioli couldn’t agree more, adding, “No messing around. [It was] straight down the line pure ballroom.” And Inaba said she was “blown away,” telling Mota, “that was ridiculous.” The judges awarded Mota 9s across the board, for a total of 36 out of 40 points.Alfonso Ribeiro: The actor, despite a painful groin injury, managed to pull through with a vivacious salsa performance to Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull’s “Booty” alongside his professional partner, Witney Carson. Ribeiro’s wiggling hips and gyrating derriere had the judges all excited, especially Tonioli, who told the competitors, “The rhythm’s got me. I could have danced all night.” Inaba even called Ribeiro over to the judges’ table just so she could spank him 10 times, displaying her enthusiasm. “That’s how you give that spice,” said Pitbull, as he recreated some of the couple’s moves. “That’s what I’m talking about.” The actor earned three 10s and one 9 for a total of 39 points. The competition continues next Monday night on ABC.Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Shia LaBeouf Talks Religion, His Dad and His Latest Film "Fury"

Sony/Columbia(NEW YORK) -- Shia LaBeouf discusses a number of topics, including his stormy relationship with his dad, finding religion after filming his new movie Fury, and his recent behavior, in the latest issue of Interview magazine.LaBeouf, who was compared to actors like Tom Hanks early in his career, tells the magazine he always rejected those comparisons."The guys who I looked up to were far darker," the 28-year-old actor notes, naming actors such as Gary Oldman, Sean Penn and Joaquin Phoenix as his idols. The choices, he adds are largely due to his tumultuous relationship with his father, whom LaBeouf has previously admitted was a drug dealer."The guys who I looked up to were guys that my dad looked up to," he explains. "I looked up to my dad. And he doesn't have a Tom Cruise or a Tom Hanks kind of sensibility. He's in the Mongols biker gang. He's cut from a different kind of fabric, a different sensibility, a Vietnam veteran who came home disgruntled."LaBeouf goes on to say he only speaks to his dad when he's working and needs to stir up feelings of anger and grief. "He knows what I'm looking for. It's not to say 'Hey, Dad,' Shia declares, "It's just an excuse to rev up. He's the marionette puppeteer."In his latest film, Fury, LaBeouf plays a member of a World War 2 tank crew who relies on his faith in God as a way of coping with the rigors of war. He believes the role helped him find his own faith."I found God doing Fury," he tells the magazine. "I became a Christian man, and not in a f**king bulls**t way -- in a very real way. I could have just said the prayers that were on the page. But it was a real thing that really saved me," he adds.LaBeouf also credits co-star Brad Pitt as being "very instrumental" in his religious transformation.LaBeouf's bizarre behavior has landed in the tabloids a number of times over the past year, and he admits he's trying to ''reinvent'' himself, though "sometimes in very uncalculated behavior.""I'm not a very intelligent person," he confesses, "and you've got to be a f**king genius to learn from other people's mistakes, because you've got to be a very smart man to learn from your own."LaBeouf also admits looking like a "drunken buffoon" in New York City just prior to his arrest for disorderly conduct during a performance of the Broadway play Cabaret. His behavior led him to seek treatment for alcohol addiction.Fury is currently in theaters.Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Brad Pitt on 'Pecking Order at Home' with Dame Angelina Jolie

ABC/Rick Rowell(NEW YORK) -- Angelina Jolie may be an honorary dame, but that doesn’t necessarily make her the boss at home.“Aaah, no,” Brad Pitt told Us Weekly with a laugh Sunday at the London premiere of his new film, Fury. “We have our own pecking order at home!”Pitt recalled the recent royal reception, in which the queen of England made Jolie a dame of the British Empire -- one of the highest honors awarded by Britain -- for raising global awareness of violence against women as the co-founder of the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative.“It was just a pleasure and certainly one for the books,” the proud husband told Us Weekly about the Oct. 10 ceremony. “[It was] a wonderful afternoon for our family, a great honor for Angie and something we won’t forget.”Pitt and Jolie brought their brood of six kids along for the meeting with the queen.Because Jolie, 39, is a foreign citizen, she cannot be addressed as “dame,” and the award was given on an honorary basis.Still, it was a significant achievement for the actress.“To receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to,” Jolie said in a statement. “Working on PVSI and with survivors of rape is an honor in itself. I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine.”Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs"); Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Michael Bolton Finds New Fans in Starring in Commercials as Michael Bolton

ABC/Matt Brown(NEW YORK) -- Michael Bolton is back in the studio, not to record another passionate break-up song, but to lay down tracks for a new line of greeting cards. The ‘90s R&B icon who made us swoon with tear-jerking ballads like “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” has launched a second career as a celebrity pitchman, selling all kinds of things from e-cards to Starbursts and Hondas. The mullet is gone, but the pipes are as solid as ever. In all of his spots, Bolton plays a version of himself. “So far they all want me to be Michael Bolton,” the Grammy-winning artist said, laughing.Bolton, who has sold nearly 55 million albums, clearly doesn’t need the money. He is just the latest celebrity to lend their persona to commercials.Recently, Matthew McConaughey starred in two Lincoln car commercials and Will Ferrell became Ron Burgundy for a few Dodge Durango spots. William Shatner has also starred in commercials where he too plays an over-the-top version of himself. Not only is Shatner in on the joke, he’s cashing in. Those Priceline ads have led to new roles, including his Emmy-winning star turn on The Practice. For Bolton, the ads have brought his career full circle. Back when he was a starving singer-songwriter, struggling to pay the bills, Bolton wrote and sang product jingles.“’Be all you can be, get an edge on life in the Army,’” Bolton said. “That was me plus 20 great singers.” Bolton likes to joke that he has done a jingle for every drink in the picnic cooler, including spots for Coca-Cola, Pepsi, 7Up, Cherry 7Up and Dr. Pepper.“Dr. Pepper was huge,” Bolton said, bursting into song: “’Dr. Pepper, give me the news, I got a bad case of loving you.’” Somewhere along the way, his music career took over, and Bolton remembers the moment he realized it.“I was driving to New York, and one of my commercials comes on,” he said. “Then the commercial is off and my single comes on and now I’m in my heart.”“I’m thinking, “This is what I’ve worked my whole life for. It’s happening,’” Bolton continued. “And just as it finishes another of my jingles comes on after it. They were bookends to my single. He said when he heard a second jingle, he called his manager from the car.“‘We have to stop doing the jingles.’ I told him,” Bolton said. "I don’t want people at radio trying to guess whether I’m a real singer or whether I’m a jingle guy.”But what brought Bolton back to the commercial airwaves was a music video parody called “Jack Sparrow” that first aired on Saturday Night Live in 2011. In the skit, Bolton is working on a song with Andy Samberg and The Lonely Island, and while the guys sing about partying in the club, Bolton keeps singing about a Disney Pirates of the Caribbean fantasy. (The Walt Disney Company, which owns the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, is also the parent company of ABC News.)Bolton said Samberg didn’t have to twist his arm to participate. He jumped at the chance."We met at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and they gave us this boardroom,” he said. “We sat across from each other and I said, “Okay first of all my daughters are flipping out that I’m meeting with you guys right now.” And Andy says to me, “My mother is going insane that I’m sitting here with you!”Through ads, Bolton can re-connect with fans who once weathered a break-up with a Michael Bolton tune, and reach their kids too.“You are now stepping in front of an audience that record companies can’t even hope to get in front of,” he said. “There’s no comparison… Because you don’t have MTV and VH1 doing that anymore. Top 40’s not looking at us… We can’t look at them to get a new record out. It’s not realistic. It could happen, but it’s not realistic.”Now the quirky ads have given Bolton a new way to remind his fans he’s still going strong.Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs"); Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

How Jake Gyllenhaal Lost 30 Pounds for Latest Movie "Nightcrawler"

Open Road Films(LOS ANGELES) -- Jake Gyllenhaal's latest movie Nightcrawler is due out at the end of the month and a Halloween release date is fitting since the actor's appearance in set photos could easily be categorized as "creepy."The Oscar-nominated actor takes on the role of Lou Bloom, a photographer who scours the night looking for horrific photos to get the most online traffic. To take on such a role, Gyllenhaal went to the extreme."I made a lot of choices physically," he told Entertainment Weekly for its latest issue, adding he lost upwards of 30 pounds for the film. Some of the actor's staples were kale salad and chewing gum to be able to drop such intense weight, he told the magazine. He also ran 15 miles each night and didn't see his friends for weeks."The running thing, you're pretty hungry because you're not eating a lot of food," Gyllenhaal added. Julia Roberts Honored at "Pretty Woman" Hotel for Humanitarian Work

ABC/Rick Rowell(LOS ANGELES) -- Julia Roberts was back at the iconic Regent Beverly Wilshire in Los Angeles Friday night, where she famously filmed Pretty Woman 25 years ago. This time, however, the leading lady wasn't gracing the hotel to rendezvous with Richard Gere. Instead, she was accepting the Humanitarian Award from GLSEN, an organization that aims to prevent bullying against members of the LGBT community in schools. Before the 2014 GLSEN Respect Awards, Good Morning America sat down with Roberts, 46, along with five young GLSEN ambassadors -- Mark Pino, Emery Vela, Peter Finucane-Terlop, Ben Espejo, and Ariana Thornton -- to talk about bullying."Why is this such an important issue for you and for your family?," ABC News' Amy Robach asked Roberts."I think for my family, because these are the heroes that are leading the way so that my children can go to school really unencumbered by this conversation," the actress explained of the five ambassadors. "You guys are the trailblazers. The future is really riding on people like this."When asked whether Roberts and each ambassador could summarize how bullying has made them feel in one word, they all had poignant yet similar answers."I'm going to start with my own experience and say that bullying, when I have been bullied when I was younger, it made me feel insignificant," Roberts said."I would say it has made me feel silenced," Vela, a high school freshman from Denver, Colorado, who identifies as a straight-trans man, added."Dehumanized," Pino, a high school junior from Linwood, New Jersey, who identifies as gay, recalled."I want to say alone," said Espejo, a high school senior from Buena Park, California, who identifies as gay."Devaluating," Finucane-Terlop, a high school junior from Tampa, Florida, who identifies as gay, agreed."I would say ignored," said Thornton, a high school junior from Midland, Michigan, who identifies as pansexual. Each of them also had strong opinions about what they would change in their schools to promote acceptance, if given the chance."I feel like a majority of the bullying that happens, or any other major issue, mainly occurs from just ignorance," Vela said. "You know, it's not people intentionally trying to be discriminatory. It's just they don't know.""Teachers surprisingly need to be more sensitive with their lessons," added Pino, pointing out that it's not just students, but teachers and administration as well, who need to be cognizant of the LGBT community. "I've had teachers go on and talk about, ‘Oh guys, this is how you date a girl.’ [But] it doesn’t ever occur to them that there could be LGBT."Roberts, as a mother of three, said the most disturbing thing to her is the "anonymous aspect of it that I think gives this sort of courage to people to be hateful as a sport. It's become like a game. And it's not a game. It's not funny. There's nothing brave or courageous about anonymously writing unkind things."Roberts says she tells her children. "'Remember who you are. Be impeccable in every way that you represent our family in the day.'""Because even to be passive," she added, "to be a bystander, is to be absolutely as wrong as the person who is standing in the front of the line of cruelty. Even if this isn't your friend, even if this isn't your cause, we're still all human kind. Everybody’s just trying to get through the day the best they can."Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Medical Examiner's Office Confirms Recovered Body Is Missing Actress

Charley Gallay/WireImage(SEATTLE) -- The King County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Friday that the body found in the Seattle suburb of Auburn, Washington, was that of missing actress Misty Upham.According to The Seattle Times, the medical examiner's office announced Upham died Oct. 5 -- the same day her family called police to report she was suicidal. They reported her missing the next day.The cause of death remains under investigation, but Upham's family believes she did not commit suicide. In a statement posted on Facebook, the family says, "We believe she ran into the wooded area behind her apartment to hide from the police. The area in question has a hidden drop off and evidence suggests that she slipped and fell off of the steep embankment when she tried to get out of a view from the road. She simply did not see the drop off."The family states that Upham was afraid of Auburn police due to an incident prior to her disappearance in which she was allegedly mistreated by officers. They also argue that Auburn police could have been more helpful after she went missing.Upham was found Thursday in a wooded area, near the White River. The 32-year-old Native American actress appeared in such films as August: Osage County, Frozen River and Django Unchained.Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Letterman's Cue-Card Man Fired After Confrontation with Staff Writer

Brad Barket /Getty Images(NEW YORK) David Letterman is no longer taking his cues from Tony Mendez.Mendez, the longtime cue-card man for Letterman's Late Show who's a familiar face to viewers, has been fired after he physically confronted a staff writer. In an interview with the New York Post, the 69-year-old Mendez says he grabbed writer Bill Scheft by the shirt and "got my face in his face" during an altercation that occurred Oct. 9, before a taping of the CBS late-night program. He says he was fired a few days later.Mendez says he'd been upset since the day before, when Scheft interrupted him as they were working with Letterman in the host's dressing room. Mendez, who claims Scheft was "always undermining me," recalls saying, “I know what I’m doing. Get off my back.”When Letterman responded, “Tony, your sour disposition isn’t helping,” Mendez says, he countered, "'You’re the one who has the sour disposition, motherf***er.'" Mendez clarifies that he and Letterman often casually exchanged profanities.Mendez says Letterman's reaction hurt his feelings, but "then I realized that this is what Bill was doing. He was trying to create a wedge between us so Dave would think I was an a**hole.”Mendez calls Letterman "the best, most generous boss" he's ever had, but adds the late-night host probably didn't realize the tension between him and Scheft. The New York Post reports Mendez has been offered his full salary and health insurance until Letterman leaves the Late Show sometime next year.Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

John Grisham Apologizes for Child Porn Remarks

J. Countess/WireImage(NEW YORK) -- John Grisham has issued an apology after commenting to the British newspaper The Telegraph that punishment for child pornography offenses can be too harsh. The best-selling author of such books as The Firm and A Time to Kill said America's judges had "gone crazy" over the past 30 years by imprisoning far too many people. He said, "We have prisons now filled with guys my age. Sixty-year-old white men in prison who've never harmed anybody, would never touch a child."He added, "But they got online one night and started surfing around, probably had too much to drink or whatever, and pushed the wrong buttons, went too far and got into child porn."Grisham told the story of a law school friend who was imprisoned after he was caught in a Canadian child porn sting operation when his "drinking was out of control." He said his friend "went to a website. It was labelled 'sixteen year old wannabee hookers or something like that'. And it said '16-year-old girls'. So he went there. Downloaded some stuff -- it was 16 year old girls who looked 30. He shouldn't ’a done it. It was stupid, but it wasn't 10-year-old boys. He didn't touch anything."Grisham declared that while he has no sympathy for "real pedophiles," "so many of these guys do not deserve harsh prison sentences, and that's what they're getting."The interview resulted in backlash against the author, who on Thursday posted an apology on his website. It reads, "Anyone who harms a child for profit or pleasure, or who in any way participates in child pornography -- online or otherwise -- should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. My comments made two days ago during an interview with the British newspaper The Telegraph were in no way intended to show sympathy for those convicted of sex crimes, especially the sexual molestation of children. I can think of nothing more despicable."The statement continues, "I regret having made these comments, and apologize to all."Grisham's latest book, Gray Mountain, will be released next week.Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

"Pacific Rim" Becoming a Trilogy

Warner Bros.(LOS ANGELES) -- Director Guillermo del Toro had already announced his hit robots vs. giant monsters movie Pacific Rim will spawn a sequel and an animated show, but in a new interview with Collider, the Oscar nominated filmmaker now says PacRim will spawn a cinematic trilogy.Pacific Rim 2 will begin shooting November or December of next year. When asked about the sequel, del Toro explains, "Some of your favorite characters come back, some others don't because we have decided that we're going to shoot ambitiously and say 'Let's hope we have three movies,' so some characters come in at the end of the second, hoping that it will ramp up on the third one."One "favorite character" who will return is Ron Perlman, who played black marketeer Hannibal Chau in the original. Chau, who makes a living selling body parts from the giant monsters, appears to get eaten by one of them in the movie, though an after-credits scene shows him escaping.Perlman, a frequent collaborator with del Toro since he and the "visionary" director met in 1991, revealed to ABC News Radio that Chau would be back. "We're gonna get the offer any day for Pacific Rim 2," said the star who also starred in Hellboy and its sequel for del Toro. The former Sons of Anarchy star said of the filmmaker, "He's Mount Rushmore man...He presides over the movie set you've always dreamed of. You know it's almost like a combination of an eight-year-old's birthday party...complete with piñatas and...donkeys that give you that five-minute ride and stuff. Uh, the fart jokes, the, the whoopee cushions...he's like a complete adolescent who happens to be the most well-read, most brilliant, most visionary, imaginative guy who has ever come down the pike, cinema-wise."Perlman provides the voice for Xibalba, the God of Death, in the new animated movie The Book of Life. The mystical, magical movie, which also features the voices of Zoe Saldana, Cheech Marin, Christina Applegate and Channing Tatum, opens Friday.Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Review: "The Best of Me" (Rated PG-13)

Relativity(NEW YORK) -- The Best of Me, the latest film to be based on a Nicholas Sparks novel, is so embarrassingly bad, it hurts to write about it. If you can forgive bad casting, ham-handed dialogue, obvious digital manipulation of the film, sloppy sound mixing and far-fetched plot points, then you just might be able to enjoy what I believe to be one of the worst movies of the year. Twenty-one years after going their separate ways, former high school sweethearts Dawson (James Marsden) and Amanda (Michelle Monaghan) are reunited after older mutual friend Tuck (Gerald McRaney) passes away. Dawson is a loner who works on an oil rig, but enjoys reading books about philosophy when he has a break. Amanda is living a Stepford existence, playing the part of the dutiful, beautiful, stay-at-home mother to a teenage son in a loveless marriage. We learn about their history through a series of flashbacks in which Luke Bracey plays the young Dawson and Liana Liberato plays young Amanda.  And here’s where the movie implodes.  There’s nothing wrong with Bracey as an actor, but this has to be one of the worst pieces of casting I’ve ever seen. He’s supposed to be the high school version of Dawson, but have you ever met a high school student with crow’s feet? In real life, Bracey couldn’t pass for an undercover cop in high school, never mind the fact there’s virtually no resemblance between him and Marsden. Bracey’s casting is such a distraction, it’s a cinematic disaster. Liberato is much more convincing as a young Monaghan. As for the plot: Dawson’s crazy, drug-running father and brothers, his relationship with Tuck, and his star-crossed relationship with Amanda past and present -- it hardly matters.  Other than the actors’ efforts to try to overcome this flaw-laden film, The Best of Me’s only other redeeming quality is that it finally ends. One out of five stars.Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio
