Columbus Man Faces Charges After Standoff

Columbus, NE~~A 57-year-old man is facing several charges following a standoff with Columbus Police Thursday afternoon.  Capt. Todd Thalken says Alfredo Santistevan was taken into custody after a lengthy standoff.

Police were originally called to 3311 17th Street just after 2:30pm for a domestic violence case.  Thalken says a woman in the house fled the residence with injuries and called the police from a nearby business.  She was taken to Columbus Community Hospital.

Santistevan refused to exit the home when officers arrived.  Law enforcement eventually received warrants to enter the home and take Santistevan into custody.  He was taken to a hospital with self-inflicted injuries.

Santistevan was charged with 2nd Degree Assault, Strangulation, and Terroristic Threats.
