Scotus Track Athletes Help Chase Down Purse Snatcher

On the eve of the state track and field championships, some Scotus Central Catholic athletes and their chaplain got an unexpected workout yesterday evening.

Don Strecker reports that as a Mass for the six boys and seven girls who qualified for the state meet and their parents was concluding in the school’s chapel, Father Matt Capadano noticed a man allegedly stealing a purse from a van parked outside.

The athletes and the priest pursued the thief, while a coach called police.  The man was soon apprehended about a block south of Scotus and taken into custody.

You can hear Strecker’s reports on the state track meet from Omaha Burke High today and tomorrow, starting at 10 a.m. both days on KLIR 101 and KZ-100.
