Founding Blue Oyster Cult drummer Albert Bouchard has teamed up with prolific veteran pop songwriter Mark Barkan on a new concept album titled Fidelis ad Mortem that can be purchased now at CD Baby. The 12-track collection, which is available on CD and as a digital download, pays tribute to New York City police officers and law enforcement personnel in general.
The album was co-penned and co-produced by Bouchard and Barkan, who during his long career has composed or co-written songs that were recorded by Elvis Presley, Leslie Gore, Manfred Mann and Connie Francis, to name a few. Bouchard played most of the instruments on the record, while Barkan contributed his keyboard talents. Al and Mark shared lead vocal duties.
The album’s title, Fidelis ad Mortem, is the motto of the NYPD, and means “Faithful unto Death.” Musically, the record covers a variety of genres, including hard-rock, pop, jazz and reggae, and many of the songs tell stories depicting police officers in a positive light.
You can check out a video for one of the tracks, the humorous, tongue-in-cheek “My Girlfriend Is a Cop,” at Bouchard’s official YouTube channel.
