No Royal Wedding performance for Sam Smith: “That's definitely not happening”

Ruven AfanadorNo, Sam Smith won’t be singing at the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding this year, but he has a good reason: The big event is happening on his birthday.

“I’m not performing or singing on my birthday,” he confirms to Australian radio show Kyle & Jackie O. “That would be amazing but no, that’s definitely not happening.”

The Royal Wedding and Sam’s 26th birthday will both be taking place on May 19. Sam says he won’t even be in his home country on that day — he’ll be out on tour. But even if he was in town and it wasn’t his birthday, he’s not sure he’d agree to perform at the wedding anyway.

“I was joking ages ago when I said I’d love to, but I don’t know, I don’t think it would be for me,” he admits. “But I’d love to go and, like, look at the dress!”

Perhaps Sam’s pal Elton John can give him the lowdown on the wedding and the dress.  It’s been rumored that Elton, a friend of Prince Harry and the Royal Family, just canceled two Vegas dates in May because they conflicted with the nuptials.
