Steven Van Zant, Patty Smyth to perform at tribute show for late Smithereens singer Pat DiNizio next month

Ezra Shaw/Getty ImagesThe E Street Band‘s “Little Steven” Van Zandt and Patty Smyth & Scandal will join the surviving members of The Smithereens at a tribute concert for the group’s late frontman, Pat DiNizio, that’s scheduled for January 13 at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey. The show, dubbed “Time and Time Again: A Celebration of Pat DiNizio,” is already sold out, but a live stream of the event will be made available.

Van Zandt will sing a few songs with the Smithereens members, as will a number of as-yet-unannounced guest vocalists. Little Steven reveals in a statement about the concert, “I’m asking any friends of mine if they can make themselves available for a song or two. We’ll see who’s around and announce them shortly.”

Part of the proceeds from the show will go toward the establishment of the Pat DiNizio Musical Performance Scholarship in conjunction with the Count Basie Theatre’s Performing Arts Academy. Donations to the scholarship also can be made via CountBasieTheatre.org.

DiNizio passed away on December 12 at the age of 62.
