Just a reminder that Neil Young will be playing an intimate solo acoustic concert later today somewhere in Northern Ontario, Canada, that will be streamed live on his official Facebook page starting at 8 p.m. ET. The show coincides with the release of the folk-rock legend’s expansive latest studio album, The Visitor, and the launch of his expansive, multimedia Neil Young Archives website.
Young recorded The Visitor with his current touring band, Promise of the Real. An official video for the album’s lead track, the patriotic protest anthem “Already Great,” premiered today on Neil’s official YouTube channel. The clip features footage of a variety of American landscapes taken from moving cars.
Meanwhile, the Neil Young Archives offers visitors a comprehensive look at the singer/songwriter’s entire catalog of recorded music, as well as his films, books, videos and more. The site, which is free for the time being, features high-quality streaming-audio versions of his tunes, spanning from 1963 recordings by his old band The Squires all the way to The Visitor. Many of the tracks and albums are accompanied by photos and archival or newly created videos that provide more information about each project. There are also links to purchase the various releases.
Neil has posted a welcome letter about the archives on the website’s news page and has put together a 10-minute tutorial video to help fans navigate the site. Young reveals in the message that the site includes “about ten unreleased albums and a few unreleased films.”
