The recently announced 2018 Celebrating David Bowie tour, featuring various musicians who toured with the late rock legend over the years, has confirmed some new additions to its lineup of performers. Longtime David Bowie guitarist Earl Slick and Rolling Stones backing singer Bernard Fowler will take part in the North American trek, which runs from a February 10 concert in Silver Spring, Maryland, through a March 11 show in Portland, Oregon.
“I’m happy to announce that I am officially joining my longtime [Bowie] band mates starting on the February leg of the ‘Celebrating David Bowie’ tour,” says Slick, who contributed to such Bowie albums as Diamond Dogs, Young Americans and Reality, among others, in addition to touring frequently with David. “So put on your red shoes and I’ll see you all then.”
Slick and Fowler join a house band for the trek that includes longtime Bowie touring and recording keyboardist Mike Garson; guitarist Gerry Leonard, who played on Bowie’s Heathen and A Reality tours; and bassist Carmine Rojas, who accompanied David on his Serious Moonlight and Glass Spider tours.
Fishbone frontman Angelo Moore and Guatemalan singer/songwriter Gaby Moreno also will take part in the 2018 Celebrating David Bowie tour, as will many as-yet-unannounced guest singers.
Meanwhile, a March 1 concert in Mexico City recently was added to the tour itinerary. Prior to the North American trek, a series of Celebrating David Bowie performances will be held in Europe, running from a January 10 concert in Paris through a January 19 gig in Berlin.
