An official video for the new Pat Benatar song “Dancing Through the Wreckage,” which is featured on the forthcoming soundtrack to the acclaimed documentary Served Like a Girl, has premiered on YouTube. The track was released Friday as a digital single, and also is available via major streaming services.
The inspirational visual features clips of Benatar singing the tune as various images are projected on a wall behind her. That’s interspersed with scenes from the film, which follows female military veterans as they compete in the Ms. Veteran America competition.
Among the backdrops seen projected behind or over Benatar as she sings are animated camouflage designs, a star-filled sky, billowing white clouds and vintage photos of the powerhouse vocalist. Pat also appears in front of a mural depicting a flock of black birds and featuring a quote from Mother Teresa about being kind to those in need.
As for the segments from the film that are shown, they include clips of female troops taking part in various military exercises, female soldiers aiding refugees and some of the Miss Veteran America contestants.
“Dancing Through the Wreckage,” which was co-written by Benatar, her husband/longtime guitarist Neil Giraldo and acclaimed songwriter/producer Linda Perry, is the lead track of the Served Like a Girl soundtrack. The album will be released digitally on November 3, while a CD bundled with a DVD of the movie will be available on November 7. All proceeds from the soundtrack will be donated to Final Salute, a charity focused on helping in-need female veterans.
Other artists who contributed new tunes to the soundtrack include Pink, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Natasha Bedingfield, country singer Chely Wright and British girl group Little Mix.
