John Fogerty recently launched a new run of Las Vegas shows as part of his ongoing residency at the Wynn resort’s Encore Theater. The former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman, whose first Vegas residency took place in early 2016 at the Venetian Theatre, tells ABC Radio that after having some initial reservations about playing an extended series of gigs in Sin City, he’s “enjoying it very much.”
Fogerty explains with a laugh, “I suppose I still remember when the idea of playing Vegas was at least different for a rock ‘n’ roller — you know, a few years ago — but, gee, I’ve been having so much fun, I don’t really think about that anymore.”
The 72-year-old rocker says his Las Vegas show, dubbed John Fogerty: Fortunate Son in Concert, is very similar to his regular arena performances, although it has “a little bit more production.”
“There’s more visual. There’s a bit more pyrotechnics,” Fogerty notes, adding that in the Vegas concerts he has “a bit of a chance to sort of explain or give some background to some of the songs.”
As for the actual music, John maintains, “I’m playing my songs, my repertoire, the same way….I wouldn’t change that. That would be a big mistake…The only reason I’m there is because people like the music.”
Fogerty’s current Vegas stint runs until October 7, and he’ll return to the Encore Theater for another series of gigs in January. In between, he has concerts on October 28 and 29, respectively, in Thackerville, Oklahoma, and Austin, Texas.
Asked whether he thinks he’ll keep extending his residency, John says, “It’s a normal part of my musical life at this point…As long as they’ll have me, I guess I’ll be coming.”
