A third installment in a series of albums pairing archival vocal performances by Elvis Presley with new orchestral backing tracks is on its way, and this one focuses on the late rock ‘n’ roll legend’s holiday tunes.
Due out October 6, Christmas with Elvis and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will feature symphonically augmented renditions of 13 tracks taken from two Presley holiday collections, 1957’s Elvis’ Christmas Album and 1971’s Elvis Sings the Wonderful World of Christmas.
Among the songs on the new album are both classic and modern yuletide tunes, including of “White Christmas,” “Merry Christmas Baby,” “Blue Christmas,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Silver Bells,” and “Silent Night.” The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra recorded its parts at London’s famed Abbey Road Studios.
Presley’s ex-wife, Priscilla, who’s served as executive producer of all three orchestral Elvis collections, says in the liner notes for the holiday album, “The songs chosen were songs that Elvis was particularly fond of and it seemed quite fitting to have the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra once again accompanying him at this very special time of year. I’m positive he would be smiling if this opportunity came up in his lifetime and that this album would definitely be in the making. Merry Christmas to all…”
Christmas with Elvis and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be available on CD, vinyl LP and as a digital download. A deluxe edition featuring four orchestra-enhanced bonus tracks taken from Presley’s 1957 Peace in the Valley EP will be released on CD and Digitally on November 24.
