Keith Richards is among the latest music artists to join the lineup of an all-star tribute concert to his late friend Merle Haggard.
The tribute happens in Nashville, TN on April 6, which would have been the country legend’s 80th birthday. Dubbed “Sing Me Back Home: The Music of Merle Haggard,” the show is being organized by Haggard’s family, his friend Willie Nelson and the production company Blackbird Presents, and will be held at Bridgestone Arena.
The Rolling Stones guitarist says in a statement, “Sometimes you meet somebody and you know instantly that you’re friends. Merle was one of those kind of cats to me. It’s another goodbye to another good friend.”
The concert’s lineup also features John Mellencamp, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top‘s Billy Gibbons, as well as such country stars as Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams Jr., Alabama, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Dierks [derks] Bentley, Alison Krauss, Ronnie Dunn, Kacey Musgraves and more.
The show will be filmed and recorded for later release as both a TV special, a home video and an album. Part of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the T.J. Martell Foundation.
Tickets are still available for the show at the Bridgestone Arena box office, Ticketmaster.com, Ticketmaster locations and by phone at 800-745-3000. For more information about “Sing Me Back Home: The Music of Merle Haggard,” visit MusicforMerle.com.
