Omaha Ref Reportedly Gets Death Threats From Kentucky Fans

Referee John Higgins of Omaha is reportedly receiving death threats after Kentucky’s loss to North Carolina in the NCAA South Regional final.  Higgins has contacted law enforcement and an investigation is underway.

A person with knowledge of the situation tells the Associated Press that Higgins reported threats on his home phone, which has an unlisted number.

Threats were also left on the office phone at his roofing company.  The Facebook page for that company was inundated with negative comments about Higgins and the quality of his company’s work.

The Kentucky athletic department said in a statement it encourages fans to demonstrate good sportsmanship.
