Another Brick in the Wall — The Opera, had its world premiere last Saturday at the Opera de Montreal.  Seven shows were originally scheduled but three more were added due to ticket demand.

The opera, based on Roger Waters‘ original words and music for the 1979 concept album, was composed by Julien Bilodeau and is scored for eight soloists, a 48-member chorus and a 70-piece orchestra.

Like the album, the opera tells the story of a character named Pink, who falls into a depression after his father is killed in World War II, and in the face of troubles with his family, teachers and marriage. “The break-up of his marriage is the final brick in the metaphorical wall he has built. When his very survival depends on it, will Pink be able to tear down his inner wall?” reads a synopsis of the opera on the Opera de Montreal website.

The U.S. premiere will take place in July 2018 at the Cincinnati Music Hall.  To sign up for more information about the U.S. premiere when it is available visit CincinnatiOpera.org/the-wall.
