Three CHS Wrestlers, Two Scotus Grapplers In State Semifinals

Three wrestlers from Columbus High and two from Scotus have reached Friday night’s semifinals at the state wrestling championships in Omaha.

The Discoverers sent 10 wrestlers to the tournament and three seniors went 2-0 Thursday: Zach Baldwin at 170 pounds, unbeaten Colton Wolfe at 195 and Wyatt Olcott at 220. Columbus is fifth in the Class A team standings with 45 points, 44.5 points behind the leader Millard South.

Out of the four Shamrocks who qualified for state, the two who advanced to the Class B semifinals are both seniors: Layton Mullinix at 145 pounds and Wyatt Gutzmer at 220. Scotus is tied for 10th in the team standings with 24 points.  Omaha Skutt leads Class B with 72.

Of Lakeview’s six wrestlers competing at CenturyLink Center Omaha, five lost in the first round.  The other, Aaron Jasper, lost in the B220 quarterfinals.  The Vikings have four team points.  \
