A Sunday Morning Collision Near St. Edward Sends One Man To ICU

ST. EDWARD- On Sunday at approximately 7:13 A.M., the Platte County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle accident located 4 miles south of St. Edward on highway 39.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a pickup driven by 42 year old Ronald Billington of St. Edward, was traveling southbound on Hwy 39 when he crossed the centerline. A semi pulling an empty cattle pot, driven by 27 year old Ben Kirsch, of New Leipzig, ND, had been traveling northbound on Hwy 39 collided nearly head-on. Billington, who had been trapped in the vehicle, needed to be extricated from his vehicle by rescue personal and was transported by medical helicopter to Lincoln, where he remains in ICU with serious injuries.

Kirsch did not receive medical attention.
