Sports Writer Steve Pivovar’s Death Is Mourned

Long-time Omaha World-Herald sports writer Steve Pivovar died Wednesday, following a battle with kidney cancer and pneumonia. He was 64.

Pivovar covered a variety of sports teams and events for the newspaper, from the College World Series to Omaha’s Triple-A baseball team, as well as Creighton University athletics.

Creighton’s athletic director, Bruce Rasmussen said “Steve Pivovar was a man with great talents, a strong passion for his job and life, and outstanding character – this is an exceedingly rare trifecta.”

Former Bluejays shortstop Nicky Lopez tweeted, “RIP Piv.  Thanks for everything you have done for CU baseball and CU athletics!”
