U.S. Basketball Team Tops Venezuela, Creighton Grad

The American men’s basketball team won easily at the Olympics Monday night, despite Creighton grad Gregory Echenique’s strong showing for Venezuela.

Kevin Durant scored 16 points and Carmelo Anthony added 14 as the U.S. won 113-69, improving to 2-0.

Echenique had 18 points and a team-high seven rebounds for Venezuela.  He is one of five Olympians in Creighton history and the first in basketball since Willard Schmidt played for the U.S. in 1936.
