NPPD Is Warning Customers Not To Fall For Scam

NEBRASKA- NPPD is warning customers not to fall for an electric bill payment scam crossing the state again.

The scam is back and working its way across the state of Nebraska in a number of communities. The phone scammer contacts business owners and residents and falsely threatens their electricity will be shut off if they do not pay their electric bill immediately with a pre-paid “Greendot” card.

A number of businesses in Kearney, Ogallala and Norfolk, and some communities served by rural public power districts, have been contacted by phone since late last week and the activity has increased.
