Columbus Standoff

A Standoff on the south side of Columbus ends in the apprehension of a 23 year old Columbus man.

Stephen Knott was held up in a house at 754 21st Avenue with a high powered rifle after Columbus Police Department, Platte County Sheriffs Office, and the Nebraska State Patrol had the area of 24th Avenue to 20th Avenue 8th Street to 6th Street blocked off for the stand off.

Officers searched for Knott early Friday morning following a violent encounter when Knott was reportedly armed with a handgun when he threatened his former girlfriend during the incident shortly before 6 a.m.

The standoff ended around 4 p.m. after Knott voluntarily exited the residence after being contacted by a negotiator. In all the standoff lasted about five hours.

Knott has been transported to the Platte County Detention Facility.
