(CHICAGO) — Drew Peterson, the suburban Chicago Police officer convicted of killing his wife, is now being charged with murder for hire while he’s in prison.
Officials in Illinois on Monday charged Peterson with attempting to put a hit out on the prosecutor who put him behind bars.
“The charges allege that between September 2013 and December 2014 the defendant solicited an individual to carry out a murder-for-hire plot against Will County State’s Attorney Jim Glasgow,” Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan said in a news conference on Monday.
Peterson was charged on Monday with one count of murder for hire and one count of solicitation for murder, and will head to court next month over the new charges.
Peterson is already serving a 38-year sentence for the murder of his third wife Kathleen Savio in 2004.
His original murder trial was turned into a cable television movie starring Rob Lowe in 2012.
