41-Year-Old Man Charged Following Attempted Murder Suicide In Schuyler

Schuyler, NE ~~ A 41-year-old man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after he stabbed a woman in Schuyler early Sunday morning and then tried to kill himself.

Colfax County Attorney Denise Kracl says the incident was discovered around 2:15 a.m. Sunday in Schuyler.

Officers encountered a 41-year-old Amauri Herrera-Alvarez trying to hang himself from a tree outside an apartment building. They intervened by cutting the rope, and paramedics took the man to the local hospital.

Officers then went inside an apartment and found a 34-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds in her throat. The woman was conscious but couldn’t communicate.

Herrera-Alvarez and the woman were later flown to UNMC in Omaha for treatment.
